Hi everyone! I have a lot of new faces on Instagram (welcome if you’re new!!) so I thought it would be fun to put together a Q&A post! I’ll be answering all sorts of questions below!
I just want to start by saying if you ever need a link for anything, check my liketoknow.it first because it usually takes me some time to get back to your questions!!
Q: How are you feeling with the coronavirus in Westport and CT?
A: I think I’m feeling the same as most people. Unsure and nervous. We have no clue what’s going to happen next. It’s scary for sure! Thankfully CT has a lower amount of cases (about 12,000 here) than the surrounding areas so we’re trying to stay positive about that and follow all protocols – we stay 6 feet away from others and we wash our hands constantly, etc.
Q: How did you get started with your blog?
Q: What grade do you teach?
A: I teach Kindergarten!
Q: Where did you go to school?
A: I went to Fairfield University for undergrad and Sacred Heart for my masters. Stayed close to home for both but lived on campus and at the beach when I went to Fairfield U. I loved it but def wish I went further away at times.
Q: Where did you get your Lauren necklace with the small letters?
Q: Do you have any time management and task completion tips?
A: These are probably going to be the same tips that you hear from everyone BUT it’s what works for me.
- create a to-do list and actually try to stick to it. It helps me to set a time where the task needs to get done. If I don’t set a deadline, then I’ll get distracted and start working on other things lol
- use a planner. I LOVE my Erin Condren planner and it helps me stay organized. I rely on it now more than ever because I can barely remember what day it is anymore!! lol
- Take breaks when you feel you need to. Schedule the breaks into your day so you know that you aren’t wasting time. You can tell yourself that this break will help you be more productive throughout the day.
These are just a few things that help me throughout the day. Sticking to a schedule and a to-do list really help me!
Q: Will you have a service for your grandma when all of this is over?
A: Yes. My dad and his siblings had the option of burying her a few days after her death with a small number of people there (10) or cremating her and having a real service for her in the future when it’s allowed. They decided to cremate her and wait to have the service they feel she truly deserves when this is all over <3.
Q: How are you balancing blogging and teaching from home?
A: This has really been an adjustment for me. I felt like I had a pretty good schedule down with teaching and blogging when I was going into school each day. Now I’m struggling with keeping a balance for sure, but hopefully within the next few weeks I’ll have a better schedule/routine down pat.
Q: Favorite snack?
A: Oh GOSH. SO many lol. Right now my snack of choice that I find myself indulging in every night is microwave popcorn!
Q: I know you don’t talk about school often but are you guys doing distance learning?
A: Yes, we are. It’s been quite the adjustment and I’m still trying to get used to it.
Q: Tan color of your body is natural? Or use some products for the color?
A: I use self tanner when I feel like it lol. Or when I know I have pictures to take. So right now, I have self tanner on! It makes me feel better about myself lol. I use Loving Tan and its my all time favorite! I use the 2 hour express and it’s amazing! I highly recommend getting the mitt that goes with it, too!
Q: Feel like people will judge me for blogging? How do I get over this?
A: I think if it’s something you’re truly passionate about, nothing should stop you! I also think that if people are judging you, it’s because they don’t know how much work goes into blogging and how successful we can actually be. That’s just my opinion though. I think if you take the time to educate people about all of the work that goes into it, there’s no way they can judge you for doing it – they should respect your passion and the hustle you have for working so hard to make it successful!
Q: Are you using google meet or zoom for teaching?
A: We use google hangouts.
Q: How did you grow so many followers when you were just starting out?
A: It was SO much easier to get genuine, engaged followers when I first started blogging (almost 6 years ago now!!!). I’d be consistent with my posts, follow accounts that were similar to mine, and engage with my followers. Now, it is SO hard to grow. The only way I’ve grown true followers is by partnering with my other blogger friends who are similar to me to do giveaways for you guys! This way, the audience will most likely be interested in what I’m sharing if they came from an account that’s similar to mine. I’m not sure if this makes sense lol.
Q: Best of Stamford list? Restaurant, bar, nail salon, etc? I moved here not too long ago!
A: There are SO many restaurants in Stamford but I have to say Colony is my favorite. Their pizza is THE BEST (in my opinion). I also love Fortina and Columbus Park. My favorite bar for the spring/summer time is Sign of the Whale because of their rooftop! I also love taking the water taxi over to the Crab Shell in the summer.
As for a nail salon, I just go to Harbor Point Nails because it’s close to me or I go to Posh Spa in Darien.
Q: How do you take your pictures? Do you use a tripod for videos?
A: Right now, during social distancing, I am using a tripod to take pictures and videos! In the past I’ve used a photographer or had a friend or family member take pictures for me! This is the tripod I’m currently using! It comes with a remote, too!
Q: What was the biggest challenge you faced when starting your blog?
A: Comparison! It is SO hard not to compare my self to others. This is STILL my biggest challenge. I watch other bloggers share sponsored posts with brands and I’m like, wait why wasn’t I chosen for that campaign? Or wow, she had 3 sponsored stories in ONE day. What is she doing that I’m not doing?! It’s SO hard not to compare and I’m still working on this. I just have to remember that you guys are following me because I share what I TRULY love. Whether it’s sponsored or not, I’m going to continue to be true to myself. I’ll never, ever share a product that I do not believe in or love just because I can get paid for it (not saying that’s what other people do). I just need to remember to stay true to myself.
Q: How did you save to be able to move out? I’m struggling right now
A: I wrote about this in this post here but I’ll explain a bit more here. I was able to save because I have 2 full time jobs and I lived at my parents house for 5 years after college. When I lived there they didn’t charge me rent and they paid for all of the groceries so the only things I was paying for was really gas, clothes, eating out with friends, etc. I was able to pretty much put everything I made from teaching and blogging into my savings account.
I also used Digit to help me save money – more about that in this post! And I continue to use that app today. I will say – where I live – the cost of living is EXPENSIVE and hard to keep up with. I have not been able to put much money into my savings account this year while living on my own. My lease is up in July and I’m really not sure where I’ll be living after this – maybe I’ll stay, maybe I’ll move back in with my parents for a bit, maybe I’ll move somewhere TOTALLY different, maybe Nick and I will move in together…I just don’t know yet!!
Q: I have such a hard time with makeup getting on the collar of my shirts. Tips on preventing?
A: I have this problem too and the best suggestion I have is to use a setting spray. I wish I had a better tip but that’s all I’ve got. The struggle is REAL lol. Thankfully it comes right off in the wash!
Ok that’s it for this month’s Q&A! I’ll try to do these monthly so that you guys can get to know me better (even though I feel like I share pretty much everything with you anyway!! lol). Feel free to leave any questions you have for me in the comments below!! Thanks for reading!
