Travel Guide: Newport, Rhode Island

Hi everyone! Happy Memorial Day! Most of you probably already know this but this past weekend Nick (my boyfriend) and I spent the weekend in Newport, Rhode Island. We were celebrating our 1 Year Anniversary (which is technically today!) and we had a blast! I'll share all the details from our trip and I've created a video below sharing even more details!

Where We Stayed

My gift to Nick for our anniversary was paying for the hotel for this trip. This being a very special occasion for us, I wanted to splurge. I had heard SO many great things about Gurney's Resort and a bunch of you recommended it to me via Instagram. After looking into it, I decided I'd rather pay more and stay at an amazing hotel than pay a little bit less and stay at an average hotel. Let me tell ya, I'm very happy with this decision!

Gurney's was absolutely beautiful. The views were breath taking and unreal. We stayed in a room that had a view of the Newport Bridge and views of the resort as well. Our room literally had 4 windows and they each had a beautiful view. We stayed in a room that had one king bed which was perfect for us. They had a large closet and a great bathroom as well. Another plus was the two large full length mirrors in the room (important for bloggers, right?). The bed was SUPER comfortable and the pillows were divine. I must say that we were really happy with our room situation.

As for the actual hotel, we loved it too! They had multiple restaurants to choose from. Our first night there we ate at the restaurant called Scarpetta. It was wonderful! I ordered the Spaghetti which was actually SO good and Nick ordered the Veal Tenderloin, which he also enjoyed. We were also treated to an amazing dessert and they made it extra special for us by writing "Happy Anniversary" on the plate. It was beautiful! Scarpetta did not disappoint at all!

We also ate at the Pineapple Club for lunch on Saturday. We definitely did not get as great of service there as we did at Scarpetta the night before. We ordered chips and guacamole, chicken skewers, and a chicken sandwich. Our chips and guacamole never came and we told the guy who delivered our meals to us. He said he would tell our server (we watched him tell our server to remove it from the bill) but when she came and gave us the check, the chips and guacamole were still on the bill. I have to add that the people at the table next to us said the same thing happened to them! I did enjoy my chicken skewers and I think Nick liked his chicken sandwich. It definitely wasn't anything amazing and the service should have been much better. We felt a bit neglected at times and we finished our bottle of prosecco before our food even came! Positives of the Pineapple Club - the view is beautiful! Its a fun atmosphere, right by the pool and with music playing.

Another great part of this hotel was that they have an outdoor pool. They are the only hotel in Newport with an outdoor pool which is awesome. We weren't expecting the weather to be so great, but it ended up being really nice! We ended up spending the majority of the day hanging out by the pool. We also walked around the hotel and sat on the hammocks that they have around the resort. ALSO, they have goats! I guess it's called Goat Island for a reason.

What to do in Newport

The great part about Newport is that there's SO much to do! We ended up staying at the hotel for the majority of our trip, but only because there was so much to do at the hotel as well.

Saturday morning we walked from the hotel into town. It was about a mile walk which wasn't bad at all! It's a beautiful walk with beautiful views so you really can't complain! We stopped at a few stores (J.Crew, Run Newport, and Gap) because neither of us packed appropriately for the weather, oops! They were setting up for live music while we were down there which is always fun!

Downtown Newport is great because there are so many different restaurants, bars, and shops to pop in and out of. Everything is within walking distance of each other and super easy to get to. Some of my favorite spots in Newport are The Landing, the Black Pearl, and 22 Bowens. There are also so many cute stores that I always love to walk through (a lot of them are on the pricier side so I don't end up buying much!). Nick and I went to the Landing and the Black Pearl on Saturday! Both spots were great - the atmosphere at both spots is so fun!

Since we didn't do much exploring this trip, I thought I'd share some other things that you guys told me to do on Instagram. A lot of you said that we should do the Cliff Walk - we thought about this but we decided to just make this more of a relaxing trip. I've heard awesome things about this and I'm definitely going to go back and do that at some point in the future! A lot of you also recommended that we go to some Newport Vineyards. I'm a wine lover so obviously I would love to do this! Again, something I'll go back and do in the future!

Overall, we had a great trip. It was a great way to celebrate our 1 year anniversary. I'm so thankful for Nick and all that he does for me! I'm lucky he's put up with my ridiculousness for the past year and that he's willing to try new things and explore with me. He certainly did make this trip to Newport one of the best ones yet!Travel Guide: Newport, Rhode Island
