The Butcher
The Butcher by Jennifer Hillier
Genre: Thriller
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Review: I had only read one Jennifer Hillier book before this one (Jar of Hearts) and I’m not sure why I didn’t read more sooner! The Butcher is a fast paced, twisty, thriller that will keep you guessing and wondering throughout the entire book.
Edward Shank is the well known, well loved Police Chief of Seattle. He is most well known for his work to kill the “Beacon Hill Butcher". The book picks up 30 years later when Edward is now retired and widowed and ready to move out of his large Victorian house. Edward decides to give his house to his grandson, Matt. Matt decides to do some renovations on the house and in doing so, he stumbles across a locked crate in the backyard. Matt decides to open it and he’s absolutely shocked at what he finds inside. He then has to make a decision on whether to keep what he found a secret between his family or turn it in to the police.
Meanwhile, Matt’s girlfriend, Samantha is convinced that her mother was killed by The Butcher. Sam is a true crime writer and she’s done extensive research and multiple different cases. She has a feeling deep down that the man they killed years ago really was not The Butcher and she’s determined to find out what really happened to her mom.
So many twists in this one! It’s definitely frustrating at times but it kept me interested the entire time. I love that it was fast paced and different than your average thriller. Check trigger warnings for this one!
